Fit Recommendations

Your Collar:
A well fitting collar is critical. You can make your collar size to the 1/4 inch, so if you like an easy fit perhaps choose 1/4 inch extra. If you like it a bit closer, choose 1/4 less. Remember, having 1/4 inch more in the collar never hurts, but a collar too snug is a shirt you probably won't wear!

Getting the perfect Sleeve Length & Cuff Size: Getting the perfect sleeve length requires both the right cuff size as well as the right sleeve length.

A good way to determine the perfect sleeve length for you is, with your shirt sleeves unbuttoned and your arms at your side, the edge of your cuff should hit approximately 3/4 to 1 inch past your wrist. Having 3/4 to 1 inch extra sleeve length will give you greater freedom of movement when you reach, bend your arms or sit at a desk.

Now to keep the sleeves from hanging into your palms you need a custom cuff size. Simply measure the circumference of your wrist. This measurement will tell us just how large your cuffs should be to keep them perfectly in place at the end of your wrist and not in your palms. Be sure to add an additional 1/4 or 1/2 inch to your watch hand. This will give you the additional fullness needed to allow for your watch.

Getting the right Sleeve Length and Cuff Size is the most common problem with Off The Rack Shirts.
As explained above the proper sleeve length requires both the right cuff size as well as the right sleeve length. If you are currently buying ready made shirts with sleeve lengths that are a combination such as a 32/33, the sleeve length is actually a 32 1/2. A 34/35 sleeve length is actually a 34 1/2, etc. It's shirt sizing like this that makes it very difficult to get an accurate sleeve length with readymade shirts.

Are your currently buying shirts where the cuff stops exactly at the end of your wrist? This sleeve length is definitely too short. Without any additional sleeve length when you raise or bend your arm the cuff is going to ride up your arm.

Are you currently buying shirts where the cuffs are hanging in your palms? The problem is simply the cuff size has been made too large in addition to being too long in the sleeve length. Your sleeve length may actually be correct but with the cuff size too large, hanging into your palms, the shirt will always feel sloppy, as well as look particularly sloppy with a suit coat on.

Collar Point Length: The average collar point length is 3 inches. This is a good point length for any straight collar, buttondown collar or wide spead collar. If you are 5'8" or shorter, or if you have a short neck, we recommend a 2 3/4 point length.

Tie Space: No Tie Space is recommended for any Straight or Wide Spread Collar Style because of the way it frames the tie knot so well and gives a good trim line to your face. A 1/4 inch Tie Space is recommended for any Buttondown Collar, Hidden Buttondown Collar or Tab Collar style to allow sufficient room for the tie knot to show.
